Privacy Policy

Last updated: 19 October 2026

Africa Education Watch (“Eduwatch”, “we”, “us” or “our”) respects your privacy. This policy describes how information may be handled when you visit africaeducationwatch.org, use its features, or choose to subscribe to our newsletter. It is written with Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) in mind and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and national laws implementing the ePrivacy rules.

This is a description of the site’s current functionality, not a guarantee that every law applies to every visitor. Please contact us if you have questions or wish to exercise a privacy right.

1. Who is responsible for your information?

The data controller for this website is Africa Education Watch.

No. 99 Fog Avenue, Legon Bypass, Accra, Ghana
Email: info@africaeducationwatch.org
Telephone: +233 (0) 303 975 001

2. Information we handle

  • Website and security information. When a page or resource is requested, the hosting service may process technical information such as an IP address, request URL, date and time, browser or device details, referring page, and response status in order to deliver the site, maintain security, and diagnose errors. Search terms submitted through site search may appear in the requested URL and related server logs.
  • Newsletter sign-up. If you enter your email address and select Subscribe, the site sends that address to Sender.net only when the Sender.net account configuration is active and the service accepts the request. If sign-up is reported as temporarily unavailable, the current endpoint has not accepted the subscription. The website does not save newsletter addresses in the Eduwatch website database. Sender.net may process an accepted address and subscription status under its own service terms and privacy notice.
  • Cookie choices. If you make a choice in the cookie banner, the browser stores your choice and the time/version of that choice. The website also keeps a limited consent record containing the selected categories and recorded time. The consent record is not designed to include your name or email address. Ordinary hosting logs may separately record the request that submits that choice.
  • Messages sent by email. If you contact us using an email link, your email provider sends your message to us. The website itself does not provide a contact-message submission form.
  • External content and links. This site links to other organisations and publishers. Video players are not loaded until you choose to play a video. When you follow an external link or play a video, the relevant provider may receive technical information from your browser and process it under its own privacy terms.

3. Why we use information and our legal bases

We use information only for purposes connected with the site’s operation and your request:

  • To deliver pages and protect the website from abuse, troubleshoot faults, and maintain service security. Where the GDPR applies, we generally rely on our legitimate interests in operating and securing the site, balanced against your rights.
  • To add an email address to the newsletter list when you request a subscription. Where the GDPR applies, the basis is your consent. You can unsubscribe using the method provided in a newsletter or contact us.
  • To remember and respect cookie/storage choices. Optional preference, analytics, or marketing technologies are not activated unless the corresponding category is allowed. The current site does not load analytics or marketing scripts.
  • To respond to an email you choose to send us.

4. Who may receive information?

Information may be processed by the website’s hosting and infrastructure providers to operate and secure the site. Newsletter addresses are sent to Sender.net only when you submit the subscription form. If you click Play on a video, your browser connects to YouTube/Google to load the player. External links may take you to publishers, social networks, or other organisations; their own terms apply after you leave our site. We may disclose information where required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of people or our services.

These providers may process information in countries outside Ghana or the European Economic Area. Where applicable law requires safeguards for an international transfer, the relevant provider and transfer arrangement must supply those safeguards. Please consult the provider’s current privacy information for details about its processing and transfers.

5. How long information is kept

  • Consent records are retained for up to 12 months, after which older records are removed during a later consent submission.
  • Browser consent settings expire after approximately 12 months. You can change your choice sooner through Cookie Settings in the footer.
  • Newsletter information is retained by Sender.net in accordance with the subscription, unsubscribe, and retention settings applicable to that service. We do not maintain a separate newsletter subscriber database on this website.
  • Hosting and security logs are kept according to the host’s retention and security practices and are deleted or anonymised when no longer needed for those purposes, subject to legal obligations.
  • Email correspondence is kept only as long as reasonably needed to respond and maintain relevant organisational records.

6. Your choices and rights

You may unsubscribe from the newsletter, change or withdraw optional cookie consent using , or contact us about information relating to you. Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction of personal information; object to certain processing; receive information you provided in a portable format; and withdraw consent. Withdrawal does not affect processing that took place before withdrawal. These rights may be subject to legal conditions and exceptions.

Under Ghana’s Act 843, you may also contact the Ghana Data Protection Commission. Where the GDPR applies, you may lodge a complaint with the competent data protection supervisory authority, including in the EU country where you live or work or where you believe an infringement occurred.

To make a request, email info@africaeducationwatch.org with “Privacy Request” in the subject. We may ask for reasonable information to verify your identity and locate the relevant records.

7. Security

We use technical and organisational measures intended to protect information handled through the site. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. If you believe your information has been exposed through this site, please contact us promptly.

8. Children

This is an informational website for a general audience and is not designed to collect personal information from children. Please contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information through a site feature so we can assess and address the request.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this notice when our services, data practices, or legal obligations change. The “Last updated” date above indicates the latest revision. Material changes will be reflected on this page.

10. Legal information

This notice is intended to explain current practices in a clear manner; it is not legal advice. The relevant legal text takes precedence, including Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), EU Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR), and, for terminal-device storage and access where applicable, the ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC as implemented in national law.
